or safety. Withcompassion as her compass, she created a safe shelter—a place of refuge, healing, and hope. There, broken lives found restoration, and forgotten women discovered they were seen, valued, and loved. But her journey didn’t stop there. While working within struggling communities, Zoraida came face-to-face with another silent crisis: children with special needs born into economically backward families. These children were often left out of education,misunderstood, and hidden away—not because their parents didn’t care, but because they couldn’t afford the support their children desperately needed. Thus a center dedicated to these children as a free special school was initiated -a place where education met empathy. Which later became a Government Recognised Special School. This school opened its doors to families who had long been shut out of opportunity, offering not only learning but also care, therapy, and inclusion—completely free of cost. Soon friends predestined to be a part of this work joined the team. At Rehoboth ,God’s love found expression—in the rescued, the rehabilitated, and the renewed.

Graduated from Madras Medical College and started my profession as a Resident Medical Officer at the Christian Mission Hospital in a remote village in the border of Andhra Pradesh, serving the rural community. Later God blessed me with the opportunity to work at the Indian Air Force Station

Edgar Jones Paul

Edgar Jones Paul, born in Chennai, like all other children hailing from a middle class family spent a very happy childhood till the 6th standard. While Paul was studying in the 6th standard in The M C C school he lost his father in a tragic scooter accident leaving behind his mother & 7 siblings. The untimely demise of his father not only shattered the family emotionally but also finanically.

Zoraida was not just a student of Social Studies—she was a student of humanity. Her education opened her eyes to the harsh realities faced by those living on the margins, but it was something deeper, almost divine, that stirred within her: a God-given purpose to be a voice for the voiceless. As she encountered stories of pain, abandonment, and injustice, Zoraida felt called to act. She began by rescuing destitute women—those discarded by society and left to survive without dignity

Tambaram for a decade, as a Medical Officer for their Maternity and Child Welfare Centre, where management of healthcare operations was part of my work portfolio. My specialisation in occupational health gave me an exposure to corporate healthcare as one of the pioneering woman doctor's for more than three decades and enjoyed working among women employees, especially their Work Life Balance and Empowerment. Loved doing rural medical work for non-governmental organisations like World Vision and Roof for the Roofless. A strong spiritual experience and a conviction that my profession was more to serve made me to join Rehoboth Home for the Mentally Challenged Women for their holistic development and it's sustenance through income generating projects.

Upon completing my degree, I began my professional journey with Jet Airways, where a providential meeting with Edgar Jones Paul, trustee of Little Drops, led me to Zoraida, the manager-trustee of Rehoboth. This connection ignited a deep desire within me to serve and be a source of hope for women in need. My early days at Rehoboth were marked by emotional intensity as I listened to the painful narratives of the inmates. Over time, I cultivated a balance that offered empathy and warmth while remaining grounded. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I embraced the role of a full-time volunteer, taking responsibility for the holistic well-being of the women and acting as a guardian to their children. I also extend my care to the children in our special school, ensuring their emotional and developmental needs are met with dedication.

Caring, sharing and helping were some of the virtues that were instilled in us from young. So much so it came naturally, became our lifestyle. As we grew up various experiences in life urged me to realise the need to collaborate with like-minded individuals and communities to achieve a lasting impact. Mr Paul from Little Drops was instrumental in guiding me to the right place ”REHOBOTH “ The greatest lesson I learned over the last 15 years with our women is “ all it takes is passion, determination and commitment. We don’t need a head full of knowledge, but willingness to see them as our own, is the key to win them over.

The single minded determination and unflinching conviction of his mother kept the family buoyant though they were deprived of basic essential and necessities. Paul even lost the luxury of going to school and returning home by the public bus and had to resort to walking 10 KMs every day to attend school. Paul completed his schooling from MCC and went on to pursue Diploma in mechanical engineering with support of well-wishers and subsequently joined Indian Airlines at Chennai in 1980. Having traversed through the uncertainties of life, Paul developed a deep and profound burden for the deprived members of our society, especially the helpless elders who are deserted in the streets by their own kith and kin and left to fend for themselves, exposed to the vagaries of nature and devoid of a fall back.Inspired by the selfless humanitarian service rendered by the noble laureate, Mother Teresa, Paul and his childhood friend commenced a noble journey to provide wholesome residential care to elderly destitute by creating public charitable trust named LITTLE DROPS in 1991 and then also started a shelter for destitute women REHOBOTH in 1998.
